The AIF Stands in Solidarity with the Struggle in the North of Ireland
Anti-Imperialists of the World, Unite!
The Anti-Imperialist Front (USA) extends its wholehearted solidarity to the rebellious people of Ireland and in particular to those fiercely resisting in the North of Ireland on Garvaghy road.
This road has a rich history of struggle against the British occupation, it has been a point of contention between the British imperialist propped up Orange Order, a fascist paramilitary. The Orange Order, alongside its puppet-masters in the British army and police forces attempted to lead their anti-Irish hate march through the area, but were resolutely defeated by the residents of Garvaghy in 1997. This heroic victory was achieved through organized and armed resistance, sustained by the Irish masses. The triumphant residents forced the British imperialists to concede, signing a Court Order that banned the Orange Order from marching on Garvaghy road, but this Order was revoked this year.
In response to the Orange Order’s imperialist-sponsored plan for a hate march through the neighborhood, the residents mobilized and took the streets, and quickly thousands of progressive masses all over Ireland flocked to their side. Street barricades were formed, roads were blockaded, and the British loyalist Orange Order was stopped dead in their tracks, have stepped not one foot into the neighborhood. This confrontation and ensuing standoff has increased the pressure on the occupying British colonial army, with the just anger of the masses resulting in the youth of Derry, Ireland, confronting the occupying police forces with firebombs and bricks. The freedom fighters of the Irish National Liberation struggle behind prison walls released a statement in solidarity with the struggle of the residents of Garvaghy road as well.
Incredible displays of heroism and working-class solidarity were exhibited during the struggle, with workers nearby accommodating the arrival of thousands of supporters. Activists setting up mobile cafes, residents opening their homes to supporters, and more. The Irish people in their tens of thousands stood up to British imperialism, and refused to back down and capitulate. In spite of the many attempts from the semi-colonial Irish Free State government to encourage them do so. Due to this, the Irish people won, and forced the Orange Order to tuck their tail and retreat as they had done nearly thirty years ago.
We, in the Anti-Imperialist Front (USA) extend our heart-felt salutes to the Irish Republican Movement, especially the comrades in Anti-Imperialist Action Ireland, who supported this struggle tooth and nail, and are a source of inspiration, pride, and hope for the anti-imperialist movement the world over. We commend the brave actions of the residents of Garvaghy road, and all those who joined in the struggle. However, we acknowledge that this battle is just one of many that the Irish Republican Movement will win, through standing shoulder-to-shoulder as a united force that can win more battles on the streets with collective action.
SMASH THE ORANGE ORDER!
BRITAIN OUT OF IRELAND, NOW!
SMASH SETTLER-COLONIALISM!
